The Sufi Psychotherapy taught by Hazrat Salaheddin Ali Nader Angha defines the emotional and psychological pain and suffering that people experience not as mental illness, but as sickness of the soul. The goal of psychotherapy then is healing the soul and union with the Beloved, with the divine creative energy of the universe that is often called God. The process of experiential learning is essential to attaining this goal, and the outcome is one of deep, permanent transformation.

The learning process of Sufi psychotherapy is qualitative and deeply personal. Sufi psychotherapy accepts and works extensively with the physical, but concentrates on the metaphysical realm. Basically the goal of both Sufism and Sufi Psychotherapy is Self-Knowledge, and through Self-Knowledge, knowledge of the Creator. Sufi psychotherapy does not focus on words or thoughts, which veil the truth. It concentrates on the development of inner, heart cognition guided by the spiritual master, the Pir.

M.T.O. Psychology teaches that we are each blessed at birth by higher levels of capabilities and potentialities. Sufi Psychotherapy provides the means for attaining the highest level of our own being. The focus is on creative development, leading to recognition of our true identity and purpose in life. The process provides the way to the tranquility and survival we all seek.

The therapeutic learning process is based on the individual, and the practices of Tamarkoz® (called Sufi Meditation, although this is a misnomer) are an important component. These practices help to reduce distractions and disconnections encouraged by the continual attempts of the material world to create and stimulate more wishes and wants. They also balance and focus personal energy, enabling one to attain a state of concentration necessary for the healing of the heart and soul.
