About the
SUFI PSYCHOLOGY
ASSOCIATION
The Sufi Psychology Association focuses on developing the abilities and potentialities hidden within each one of us, so that we may come to live in harmony, unity, balance, and peace. The two fundamental questions that are the key to human behavior were asked by Nader Angha in his book titled, Peace:
1. How can the perfect human be developed?
2. How can the perfect society be developed?
Western psychology has focused on describing various behaviors rather than examining the basic, underlying principles which govern human behavior. Modern western psychology does not know how to teach people to change dramatically and permanently in a positive fashion. Nor has it been able to show people how to live in peace and contentment. The daily news is filled with examples of discontent, greed, corruption, warfare and the slaughter of other human beings.
Some psychologists do examine “Positive Psychology”. Several, most notably Abraham Maslow, have described persons they consider as models approaching the ideal — the self-actualizing, fully functioning human being. But psychologists have been unable to demonstrate the means to enable people to attain and function at these or higher levels.
Historically, there has been one source which for more than 1400 years has been able to consistently produce the desired results: an outcome of motivated, competent, content, creative, productive, fully-functioning human beings who are at peace with themselves and with Existence. That source is Islamic Sufism.
The Sufi Psychology Association was founded by a group of people in the helping professions who had themselves experienced profound, positive changes in their own lives through the Sufi teachings of Nader Angha, Pir of Maktab Tarighat Oveyssi Shahmaghsoudi, School of Islamic Sufism®.
The basic purpose of the Sufi Psychology Association is educational — to share the expansive body of developmental knowledge and training techniques utilized in Islamic Sufism, so that all who sincerely seek may come to develop to their maximum potential and live in peace, helping to develop a more perfect society.
The Sufi Psychology Association is a non-profit, tax-exempt charitable organization which is staffed entirely by volunteers. No one receives any compensation for their contributions to the organization.
The purpose of the Sufi Psychology Association is to support publications, research, workshops, seminars, conferences, retreats and other events providing educational information about Sufi Psychology to the public. An interdisciplinary approach is emphasized, and anyone who is interested is welcome to join. People from varied and diverse backgrounds and occupations are welcome. The soul has no gender, color, nor ethnicity.
