TAMARKOZ®

Tamarkoz is the practice of Sufi group movementmeditation, which has a different focus and different results than practices called meditation in the West. Tamarkoz exercises require both discipline andeffort. The exercises are active, engaging, and produce concrete positive results, even for beginning practitioners.

The practical, useful techniques create concentration and a quiet mind, enabling one to reach a comfortable state of calmness and peace. The practices also encourage reconnection with the deepest, most spiritual element of our being. Through the regular practice of meditative techniques, it is possible to create a powerful union between body, mind and soul.

A key element of Tamarkoz is Movazeneh® — meditation through movement. It is the complete awareness of the patterns of our own energy fields. Movazeneh is the expression of inner harmony which kindles the flame of love.

 

Key Elements of Tamarkoz®

The essential elements of Tamarkoz are the organized, disciplined practice of the following types of exercises: 

Movazeneh® is a set of practical postures and slow-motion movement exercises which stimulate, concentrate and balance the flow of energy to the 13 major electromagnetic centers of the body.

Clearing the Mind enables us to free ourselves from habitual thought patterns, to control emotional reactions, to simply be in the present moment, and to prepare physically and mentally for concentration.

Breathing exercises focusing on breath rhythm, duration and depth ensure proper oxygenation, regulate vital processes, and reduce reactivity, enabling a calming and healing process to occur.

Deep Relaxation clears deep fatigue and accumulated pressures and is the antidote to stress, allowing the body to recuperate and build strength.

Visualization discourages self-critical, negative patterns of thought and behavior and encourages positive emotions, experiences and perceptions.

Concentration trains the central nervous system, eliminates habitual interference patterns, and teaches us how to focus one-pointedly, like a laser beam.

Tamarkoz exercises are included at conferences and are a primary educational technique of our retreats. Tamarkoz classes are offered on an on-going basis in many Sufi Centers.
